Jacky Goddard BEM
The King has awarded leader Jacky Goddard a British Empire Medal in his birthday honours list for services to young people through Girlguiding and Gang Show.
Jacky has run many units, taking on district, division, county and HQ roles with over 60 years of service and has influenced the lives of many. Joining Guiding as a Brownie in 1952, Jacky has never left…
Many will have heard about her trip to America when she was selected as a Ranger to represent UK Guiding at a round up. And since then she has strived to give others the opportunity to travel abroad and represent our Girlguiding.
She has always run her own units and there hasn’t ever been a week gone by when she hasn’t done something connected with guidng.
It is hard to summarise over 60 years of service and to count the number of young people she has influenced and encouraged.
Through Southend Gang Show she provided yet another opportunity for young people to try something new and gain confidence and skills for life. Starting in the Gang herself in 1968, she progressed on to producing the show.
Those that know Jacky will know she doesn’t do it for the glory, but will know that this is richly deserved and we are all so proud that the King has selected her to receive her BEM.
