Sally Baskett

Hello, my name is Sally and I have been commissioner for Southend East since September 2019.

I became a Brownie aged 8 in Great Wakering after a new unit opened and loved it from the off! I moved up to Guides and then Rangers whilst also helping at Brownies as a Young Leader before taking on adult leadership at 18.

I have so many good memories from those early guiding days – my first camp, it rained all week – I didn’t go again for 3 years but haven’t stopped camping with Guides since. Farmers field camping in Suffolk, weekends at Guideacres and Essex International Jamborees, making some great friends along the way. Our district trip to Our Chalet in Switzerland is a particular highlight and I have also spent some great leader weekends at Hautbois too.

Currently, I lead a Guide unit. I enjoy being with the Guides – sharing experiences, enabling them to try new things, learn new skills whilst having fun as part of their guiding journey. As a commissioner I enjoy supporting the leaders in Southend East to provide the best Girlguiding they can deliver to girls and young women in the area.
