Alison Tompkinson

County secretary, Girlguiding Essex South East

My name is Alison and having been county commissioner for Essex South East for 5 years, I became county secretary in December 2022. I joined guiding as a Brownie and continued as a Guide and a Ranger. My favourite memory of being a Guide was using the camp clothes we had taken with us to create fancy dress costumes.

As an adult, I have enjoyed working with people from across the county and region including running Brownie Starburst, helping with a subcamp at Essex International Jamboree and attending Centenary celebrations in 2010. I have also been lucky enough to visit Sangam in India and Our Cabana in Mexico. As county commissioner, I enjoyed visiting some of our units and attending district and division events and I am now looking forward to supporting Carole and the county in my new role as county secretary.

Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.
